Evaluation Criteria
Apart from the basic requirements, the
destinations should also meet at least 4 of the 5 specifications
of the General Award Criteria as stated in Table 1. The General
Award Criteria have been summarized in the following categories
with each subject divided into additional sub-categories:

Eligible tourism destinations must be
emerging and non-traditional

Eligible tourism destinations shall
offer authentic tourism experiences

Eligible tourism destinations shall have
local authorities with a capacity in managing the tourism
offer in a way to ensure social, cultural and environmental
sustainability

Administrative efficiency and
cooperation between public and private entities
-
Eligible tourist destinations should
have agencies, NGOs or other authorities with a capacity in
adopting sustainable tourism practices
As soon as the destination is evaluated by
the Evaluation Committee as eligible tourism destination, it can
proceed to the next evaluation process stage. The eligible
tourism destination should receive at least 50% of the total
score of the Specific Award Criteria evaluation. The Table 2
“Evaluation Form on Specific Award Criteria” analyzes the
following topics that are divided into additional
sub-categories.

Quality, richness/uniqueness/originality
of tourism offer to enhance health and well-being based on
the destination's natural or cultural/historical/spiritual
resources.

The inclusion of the Health and
well-being tourism in the local or regional strategy of the
destination.

Marketing and public awareness
activities on Health and well-being tourism issues.
The specific quality criteria provide an
effective evaluation of the candidate destination, focusing and
covering both the EU Guidelines as well as the strategic
framework of the Deputy Ministry of and the Republic of Cyprus.
