EDEN Route 1: Agros – Troodos – Kalopanayiotis

The magic of the mountain and the inner land!

The EDEN Route 1 reveals the unique mountain beauty of Cyprus. The suggested start point is Agros, a village which has been awarded "European Destination of Excellence in Intangible Heritage 2008". In Agros, the nature lovers will be satisfied due to the three (3) nature trails that they can explore. The churches in the area are of particular interest for their Byzantine architecture, many of which date back to the 19th century. The EDEN Route 1 continues by ascending to the Troodos mountain range enjoying the magnificent natural forest landscape. The Troodos Square which is located at an altitude of 1.725 meters, is one of the most attractive spots in the region. The complex of the Troodos mountainous villages has been awarded in 2007 "Best Emerging European Rural Destination of Excellence’’. The visitor can explore the picturesque villages in the Troodos region as well as the many picnic sites that are located in the area.

The Troodos area is also known for its cycling network and the “Wine Routes”. The EDEN Route 1 ends at Kalopanayiotis village. Kalopanayiotis is popular for its traditional architecture and the restoration of most of the buildings which contributed to be awarded “European Destination of Excellence on Tourism and Regeneration of physical sites – 2011”.

The EDEN Route 1 presents an area rich in ecological, historical, archaeological, cultural and scientific value. For more information please check the relevant brochure.
