The Winning Destination

The Cyprus EDEN Winning Destination “Tourism and Local Intangible Heritage” will be selected by the project Steering Committee, which comprises representatives of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Ministry of the Interior, the Union of Communities, the Union of Municipalities, the Association of Cyprus Travel Agents, the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative and the Cyprus Association of Cultural & Special Interest Tourism.

As the sole such region to be selected in Cyprus, this presents a significant marketing and development opportunity. For this reason, the selection process focuses not only on existing infrastructure, but to the region’s commitment to future development and sustainability.

The winning EDEN Destination will be promoted extensively in Cyprus and internationally:

  • A promotional brochure, in English, will be developed for the region, highlighting its history, culture, local cultural heritage characteristics, contact information, map and directions, natural environment, places of interest, arts and crafts, etc. This will be disseminated in Cyprus and internationally.

  • The region will be promoted by CTO through its international tourism offices as well as other public relations efforts (e.g. articles in press).

  • The region will be featured on the CTO website as well as on this website, i.e www.cyprus-eden.com.

  • The winning Destination will be promoted at the European level by the European Commission, Tourism Unit. A budget for pan-European promotion and a marketing campaign are being developed for this purpose.

  • The region will be promoted at the European Tourism Forum 2008 in France, which will highlight the EDEN “Tourism and Local Intangible Heritage” award winners across Europe. (18 E.U. Member States and 2 Candidate countries are participating).
