The Winning Destination

The Cyprus EDEN “Aquatic Tourism” winning destination will be selected by a Steering Committee comprising of representatives of the Cyprus Tourism Organization, the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Interior, the Association of Municipalities, the Association of Communities, the Association of Cyprus Travel Agents, the Joint Initiative for Sustainable Tourism in Cyprus and the Cyprus Association of Special Interests and Cultural Tourism.

The selection will be for a unique destination in Cyprus providing an important opportunity for promotion and further development of the area. For this reason, the selection procedure focuses on destinations that manage their tourism offer in such a way that the social, cultural and environmental sustainability of the area is ensured. The winning destination will be the one that reflects, in the best way, a great tourist experience combined with a sustainable and environmentally sensitive approach to “Aquatic Tourism”.

The EDEN winning destination will be promoted extensively in Cyprus and internationally:

  • An informational brochure concerning the winning destination, in Greek and in English, will be produced, showcasing the natural beauty of the destination, the management and the protection of the environment, the available tourism facilities, the local customs, the recreational activities relative or not to water element, sports activities and events, while providing details concerning the destination’s contact information, maps and directions, the general environment, areas of interest, Museums, accommodation facilities, etc. The brochure will be distributed both in Cyprus and internationally.
  • The winning destination will be promoted by the CTO through its information offices and through other public relations activities (e.g. articles in the press, presentations on media).
  • The selected destination will be presented on the CTO website and the Cyprus EDEN website www.cyprus-eden.com.
  • The winning destination will also be promoted at European level by the Tourism Unit of the European Committee.
  • The winning destination will be promoted at the European Tourism Forum 2010, during the EDEN Award Ceremony of all winning EDEN “Aquatic Tourism”.
