Evaluation Criteria

The Evaluation Committee members represent CTO along with other governmental and non-governmental organizations. Each application will be evaluated according to the scoring grid below. The applicant destination that will score the highest points will be the winner of the competition:

  • Quality of services offered

Improvement of the quality of life of the local people and the environment in the area i.e:

  • Involvement of the local community in the tourism offer
  • Availability of Action Plans for the protection of the environment
  • Organization of fairs, festivals and other events, traditional hospitality
  • Promotion of environmental protection as an attraction for tourists

Promotion of the value and demonstration of the unique features of the protected and/or the surrounding area:

Promotion of the value of the protected area to the local people (action plans focusing on youth etc.), i.e.:

  • Environmental awareness campaigns (subject, duration, objective, etc.)
  • Environmental education and awareness centers
  • Organisation of information/ educational seminars

Demonstration of unique features of the protected and/or the surrounding area

  • Publication of multilingual leaflets and other information material and maps

Strengthening the sustainability of the destination, in terms of preserving its authenticity, management capacity (employment of trained staff, availability of equipment and infrastructures, strategic planning with the involvement of local stakeholders etc), and the availability of required infrastructure (hotels, restaurants, taverns, means for environmental protection and control etc.)
